Pumpkin Dessert

It is a winter-time seasonal and one of the famous and traditional desserts in Turkish cuisine. This is a very simple recipe is made only with some pumpkin and sugar and chopped walnuts and tahini for the top of the dish.

Although it is an easy recipe, preparing time takes longer. You have to soak the peeled and sliced pumpkin with some sugar on it and let it sit overnight or at least 6 hours. It makes release its own juices. In this way, you don’t need extra water to cook and moreover it will be both easier to cook and more delicious.


Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 30-35 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 kg. pumpkin

  • 250 gr sugar

  • 2-3 cloves (optional)

  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)

 

For Topping:

  • 2 tbsp tahini

  • 50 gr chopped walnuts


INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Slice the peeled and washed pumpkin into a flat large pan and spread the sugar on it and let it sit overnight or 6 hours until release their juice.

  • Put the pan on low heat. Add the cinnamon and cloves, they make the taste richer. After simmering continue to cook until it softens but avoid it to be mushy.

  • Set aside to cool.

  • Serve it with tahini and walnuts.
