Homemade Burger Buns

Prep time:  1 ½ hour

Bake time: 30 minutes


INGREDIENTS:

  •  1 egg

  • 150 ml milk

  • 100 ml lukewarm water

  • 50 ml melted butter

  • 450 gr flour

  • 15 gr. dry yeast

  • 1 tbsp. sugar

  • 1 tbsp. olive oil

  • 1 tbsp. salt

  • 1 egg yolk (for the top)


INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Pour the water into a cup and add the dry yeast and sugar, mix them just a little and wait until the yeast rises.

  • In the meantime, put the flour, melted butter, egg, oil, salt into a large bowl.

  • After the yeast rises, add to the bowl.

  • Pour only half of the milk, because the amount of milk may vary depending on type of flour. Then mix with spatula.

  • Pour the remaining half of the milk. 

  • Start to knead the dough by your hands.

  • Keep kneading the dough on a silicone baking mat or a marble surface (not wood).

  • At first the dough will be sticky, but as the dough continues to be kneaded apprx. 10-15 min. the yeast will be more activated, in the end the dough will be smooth and supple.

  • Give the dough like a ball form and spread olive oil (1 tbsp) on it. Cover the bowl with cling film properly and let it in room temperature or if you don’t want to wait too long, preheat oven to 50oC and turn it off then put the bowl into the oven. Until the dough rises.

  • As the dough is ready, take it to the knead surface or counter and knead more 1-2 minutes by greasing your hand.

  • Shape the dough into a flat cylinder and cut it into small pieces, approximately size of two walnuts, shape them into a ball by rolling around.

  • Place them on a baking tray.

  • Prepare the egg yolk in a small cup and spread the egg over each ball of dough with an egg brush.

  • Preferably, you can sprinkle some sesame on them.

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes on 20oC (40oF) heat.
